SALTEX College Cup 2017 gathers momentum
The IOG is pleased to announce that seven land-based educational colleges have now confirmed their attendance at the SALTEX College Cup competition, sponsored by Ransomes, which will be held on 1 November within SALTEX at the NEC, Birmingham.
One team of four students from Askham Bryan College, Bridgwater & Taunton College, CAFRE Greenmount Campus, Kirkley Hall Campus, Moulton College, Myerscough College, and Writtle University College will be taking part in the competition.
Commenting on the confirmed entrants, organiser and IOG head of member services, Dan Prest, says: “The SALTEX College Cup is a great opportunity to demonstrate the effort that both the colleges and the students go through to ensure they are up to date with technical advances and industry trends as well as understanding the fundamentals of horticulture and groundsmanship.
“The winning team will receive the SALTEX College Cup and a £500 cheque for the college’s turf department, while each student will receive a £50 Amazon voucher and will be offered the chance to gain a day’s work experience at an elite sporting venue.”
Ransomes marketing & communications manager Karen Proctor said: “Due to the success of the SALTEX College Cup in 2016 there was no doubt that Ransomes had to support this great initiative in 2017. Seeing first had the enthusiasm that the students brought to the industry was another reminder of why we are so passionate about supporting educational programmes and events. We are looking forward to meeting the candidates in November for another hugely successful show.”
Last year’s winners from CAFRE College in Antrim, Northern Ireland, experienced an unforgettable day when they were part of the Wembley grounds team at the showpiece of the UK’s most historic sporting competition – the FA Cup Final.
