Frequently Asked Questions

What does the name IOG SALTEX mean?
IOG is the Institute of Groundsmanship who own the exhibition. The letters in SALTEX stand for Sports, Amenities and Landscaping Trades Exhibition.

Why does IOG SALTEX always take place in September?
The timing of the event is due to the busy racing calendar at Royal Windsor Racecourse. There is a break in racing during the end of August and early September which allows enough time to set up and run IOG SALTEX.

We understand that this is a busy time for some of our visitors, especially those who work in the education sector, but we strongly encourage you to plan your workload during this busy period to include a day's visit to the show.

When did IOG SALTEX start?
The first exhibition was held in 1938 at The Hurlingham Club in London. There was a break for the war years from 1939 - 1946 and it re-opened in 1947, remaining at The Hurlingham Club until moving to the London University Ground at Motspur Park, South West London, in 1965. In 1978 it moved to Windsor Racecourse which has remained home, apart from a three year move to Peterborough in 1990 - 1992. The 64th IOG SALTEX will take place in 2009. The 2009 show will also be celebrating 75 years of the Institute of Groundsmanship.
